Applications
Since construction and operation of sewers is frequently cost prohibitive, decentralized and compact wastewater treatment plants – stationary or mobile -are becoming increasingly important.
Protection of eco-systems and scarcity of water in many regions require reuse of wastewater, e.g. for irrigation.
Features
HUBER BioMem® units are complete and compact wastewater treatment plants producing an effluent of outstanding quality. The BioMem® container plants include mechanical pre-treatment, biological treatment and membrane filtration.
HUBER VRM® ultra-filtration membranes retain solids, bacteria and viruses larger than 40 nm (0.04 microns) thus guaranteeing outstanding effluent quality. Compliance with most stringent standards permits reuse of effluent. Disinfection of the crystal clear effluent, where still required, is much less expensive.
Function
Raw wastewater is pumped from an equalization tank through a MiniCop® unit for screening (1/8” perforation), grit and grease removal. The pre-treated wastewater (3) flows into the aeration chamber (1) of the BioMem® container unit. Nitrification/denitrification, if required, can be achieved by intermittent aeration with the diaphragm diffusers (8). A pump (7) re-circulates activated sludge between the chambers whereby it returns by gravity from the filtration to the aeration chamber. A VRM® ultra-filtration membrane unit (4) with a drive (6) for rotation of the membranes is installed in the filtration chamber (2). An aeration blower, a scouring blower, a permeate pump and the controls are installed well accessible outside of the tank (5). The permeate pump generates a small vacuum pressure (< 10 ft WC) and pulls the effluent through the membranes.
